Wires? We don't need no stinking wires!

Dad's friend Scott came over to help.  They fixed the torsion bars on the tailgate and managed to remove the old speaker boxes that were rusted and water damaged.  Today they removed all the old unnecessary wiring from under the dash and under the hood.  It was a mess.  They fixed the blower fan and shift indicator and polished the instrument cover lenses while in there.

It's all choked up

Today we hooked up the choke so that the Blazer will hopefully start up int he cold upstate New York weather.

We also installed a new steering stabilizer and went to Pick-Your-Part again, to get a power door lock solenoid.

Oh, and continued to weld up holes and sand Bondo.

How many holes to fill a K5 Blazer?

We worked all weekend to cut out the rust and weld in new metal.  We also fiberglassed in the holes in the roof where the rack used to be and welded up the holes from the spare tire rack.  Still more trim holes to fill....

It has Ugly Bits

It has an ugly custom grill, an ugly roof rack, an ugly (and useless) spare tire, and ugly "Cheyenne" trim.

It all has to go.  So we removed it all.  Now there are a lot of holes to fill.

It is Rusty!

It was cheap because it has issues.  There is rust in the tailgate, quarter panel, wheel arch, and door.

My Dad will cut it all out and weld in new metal.

It is Huge!

It is so big!

It had a 4 inch lift but we lowered it to 2 1/2 inches.  It's still huge!

And built like a tank.

Bought a Blazer

Found a 1974 K5 Blazer in Oxnard via Craig's List.  Described as: Runs great. Chevy 350 motor. Power windows. Fully convertable top. Nice stereo.   Make me an offer. Must see.  $3900.  Made him an offer and bought it.  It overheated on the way home in Thousand Oaks.  Just low on coolant.
